About

I’m just another car nut. I’ve just learned a few things about Z cars.

I remember as a teenager there was a nice 260Z that was always parked in the street across from my friends house. I don’t think that car moved for several years until my friend’s dad bought it. I moved away, but caught up to my friend years later. Unfortunately the car was hit and totaled while he was driving it, though he escaped without injury.
In the mean time, I was at my parents house at checking out the 1981 280ZX turbo my dad’s friend bought just a month or so before his visit. I noticed that one of his tires was low. I politely mentioned it to him. The three of us went out to look at the car.
“Have you ever driven a turbo car before?” he asked.
“No, sir.”
The keys came flying toward me. (He wouldn’t let his own daughter drive it.) I took his car to the closest gas station and aired up his tire. Driving back, there was a little chicane in the neighborhood. I took it much faster than I dared in the parents’ Tercel. The car stuck like glue. There was no drama whatsoever.

Five years later, I wanted a hobby car. I found a 1973 240Z. I was hooked.

I hope what I post here may help you with your car. I’m not a mechanic. I’m a competent engineer, who gets his hands dirty in the hopes of learning more.

Thank you for dropping in. Enjoy the pictures.

Hi Steve. Nice website. Thanks for the suggestions on the ignition mods. I’ve been on RockAuto checking out the 280zx distributors and will decide whether to try it or not in the next few days. I’ll have to see if I can find a bracket first. Lowest cost on reman is $148. See you at the next meeting.

Hey Steve- I stumbled upon your website (it’s great btw) via one of your classic z car forum posts (about security). I had a random question for you regarding a way to interrupt the ignition wire via a kill switch. For a 240z (1972), what amp rating switch would be sufficient? What gauge wire? There aren’t a lot of step by step walk throughs on how to install for obvious reasons. Not wanting the world to know how to bypass a security feature in one’s car. Thank you in advance
